In the Championship, sixteen regional representatives(*) including nine regional college football league champions are qualified for the championship.
*) One college team is selected to represent each of the nine regional college football leagues. Three extra teams are selected to represent the Kanto colleges league. Two extra teams are selected to represent the Kansai colleges league. One extra teams are selected to represent the Tokai colleges league. One extra team is selected to represent the Kyushu colleges league.

If two teams are level at the end of regulation time, 20 minutes (in the final, 30 minutes) of extra time shall be played.
If the match (except the final) is still undecided, the winning team shall be decided in a penalty shoot-out.
