note

J.League matches are played in two stages. During each stage, each team meets every other team once either at home or away (the home and away teams are reversed in the second stage).
If different teams win the two stages, the two stage winners play-off for the championship to determine the overall first and second places.

J.League Championship team is winner of play-off matches for the championship, and runner-up is loser of the matches. Rankings below third place are determined by adding the points for the both stages.

In J.League, when regulation time of league match play fails to determine a winner, teams play a 'V-goal'(golden-goal) extra time. If the match is still undecided, the match ends in a draw.
Teams are allotted three points for a win in regulation play, two points for a 'V-goal'(golden-goal) extra time win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
The ranking is determined as follows: 1) total of all points, 2) goal difference, 3) total of goals.

Points
  • 3: a Win in regulation play
  • 2: an Win in extra time
  • 1: a Draw
  • 0: a Loss

In J1, the bottom two teams, Reds and Bellmare, shall be relegated to J2 automatically.
In J2, the top two teams, Frontale and FC Tokyo, shall be promoted to J1 automatically.

F-Marinos changes the team name from Marinos.

The scores of away matches in my documents are italic small violet numbers.

note

In Japan Football League, all teams play each other three times.
When regulation time of league match play fails to determine a winner, teams play a sudden-death (golden-goal) extra time.

  • 2: an Win in extra time
  • 1: a Draw
  • 0: a Loss

YOKOHAMA FC and Kokushikan University are associate members of the league.
If Yokohama FC ranks higher in the league, shall be a regular member. If fails, Yokohama FC shall play in Regional Football League Competition.

J.League shall add one team to J2 in next season.
Hollyhock which become a qualified team for the J.League shall be promoted to J2 automatically.

The top two teams of Regional Football League Competition, Alo's Hokuriku and Tochigi S.C., shall be promoted to Japan Football League.
As associate members of the league, Kyoikukenkyusha football club shall be promoted to Japan Football League.

One college team, Shizuoka Sangyo University, shall be eligible to play in Japan Football League 2000.

The top three teams (Honda, Otsuka FC and Denso) in first stage of the league, except associate members, are qualified for the 79th Emperor's Cup.
