OKUDERA Yasuhiko (Furukawa) and KIMURA Kazushi (Nissan) are registered as the first Special Licence Players which are substantial professional players.

The bottom two teams, Matsushita and Hitachi, shall be relegated to division-2 automatically.

YOMIURI as Japan Soccer League champion shall be eligible to play in Asian Club Championship 1987.

In Preliminary Rounds, the top four teams in each blocks shall be eligible to play in Championship Play-off, and the rest of teams shall play in Consolation Play-off.

The top two teams, Sumitomo Metal and Toyota, shall be promoted to division-1 automatically. (both teams are re-promoted.)

The bottom two teams, TDK and Kyoto Police, shall be relegated automatically.

The top two teams of Regional Football League Competition 1986, NTT Kanto (in Saitama) and Mazda Auto Hiroshima (in Hiroshima), are promoted to Japan Soccer League division-2 automatically.
