Sixteen regional representatives(*) including nine regional college football league champions are qualified for the championship.
*) One college team is selected to represent each of the nine regional college football leagues. Four extra teams are selected to represent the Kanto colleges league. Two extra teams are selected to represent the Kansai colleges league. One extra team is selected to represent the Kyushu colleges league.
If two teams are level at the end of regulation time, the winning team shall be decided by lot.
In Final, if two teams are level at the end of regulation time, extra time shall be played.
