In the Championship, 24 regional representatives(*) including nine regional college football league champions are qualified for the championship.
*) Prime Minister Cup winner, Hokkaido 1 team, Tohoku 1 team, Kanto 5 teams, Hoku-shin-etsu 1 team, Tokai 3 teams, Kansai 4 teams, Chugoku 1 team, Shikoku 1 team, Kyushu 3 teams and Playoffs winner 3 teams.

If two teams are level at the end of regulation time, 30 minutes of extra time shall be played.
If the match (except the final) is still undecided, the winning team shall be decided in a penalty shoot-out.
