The top two teams of each groups progress to Quarter-finals.

Fourteen representatives(*) from nine regional Prince Leagues, the winner in the All Japan Club Youth (Under-18) Football Tournament and the winner in the Inter High School Tournament are qualified for the championship.
*) the top one team of Hokkaido, the top one team of Tohoku, the top two teams of Kanto, the top one team of Hoku-shin-etsu, the top two teams of Tokai, the top two teams of Kansai, the top one team of Chugoku, the top one team of Shikoku, the top three teams of Kyushu including winner of last year's championship, except the winner in Club Youth Tournament and the winner in the Inter High School Tournament.
In the finals, when regulation time of the match play fails to determine a winner, teams play a 'V-goal'(golden-goal) extra time for 20 minutes. If the match is still undecided, the winning team is decided in a penalty shoot-out.
In the Preliminary Rounds, all teams play each other one time.
Teams are allotted three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
The ranking is determined as follows: 1) total of all points, 2) goal difference, 3) total of goals.
Funabashi municipal High school as the winner of Prince Takamado Cup shall be eligible to play in the 83rd Emperor's Cup.
